Q: What do you do when you have an arch enemy who everybody feeds with fashionable accessories, whilst your own efforts at being be cool and hip are racing into oblivion, well helped along by lost law-suits?
A: You simply step out of your comfort zone and conjure up a menswear range that will integrate your abortive attempt in the sphere of tablets.
Alright, alright… Maybe it isn’t directly an offshoot of the Galaxy Tab – which hasn’t exactly received the same attention from the fashion industry (or anyone else for that matter) as Apple’s iPad – but none the less, it’s roughly what Korean giants Samsung (yup, the ones with all the electronics) have done with their new Italian manufactured clothing brand GX1983? Fair’s fair, while it might come as a surprise to most Westerners, Samsung aren’t at all new to the world of fashion: in their native Korea they’ve been selling their Galaxy-range (apparently those guys are obsessed with that word) for since 1983, and with great success and more than 150 flagship stores to follow. Well, now the turns come to Europe, or more precisely the Italians, where GX1983 will be sold exclusively.
To tie a concluding knot on the whole Galaxy Tab-thing, some of the garments are designed with pockets made to fit the tablet. What a cunning thought, eh?! Samsung now have a tight leash on the 30-odd guys worldwide who opted for the Galaxy Tab ahead of the iPad…
And now, I will never say ‘galaxy’ again!
Bis später!
